Cat5 provides technical and operational services to critical infrastructure across the Southeast U.S., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, supporting telecommunications, utilities, and other essential industries.
What Does the Seasonal Disaster Response Team Do?
When natural disasters or large-scale power outages occur, backup power can become critical to maintaining operations. Generators may need to be transported and deployed, fuel delivered to customer sites, equipment started, and information from the field communicated back to command centers.
Cat5’s Seasonal Disaster Response Team helps support these operations.
Depending on the deployment and assignment, responsibilities can include:
- Delivering fuel to customer sites
- Deploying generators to customer sites
- Starting generators when required
- Troubleshooting minor generator issues
- Reporting required field information to command centers
- Assisting with other disaster response projects as needed
These are hands-on roles that support Cat5’s ability to respond when customers require backup power and field support.
Disaster Response Requires a Flexible Workforce
One of the challenges of disaster response is that emergencies don’t operate on a normal schedule.
A major weather event or power outage can quickly create increased demand for generators, fuel, transportation, logistics, and personnel. Having qualified seasonal team members available gives Cat5 additional resources that can be mobilized as needs develop.
Seasonal storm crews are deployed on an as-needed basis for disaster response events. A flexible schedule is required, but lack of availability for a particular deployment does not disqualify team members from future deployments.
This allows Cat5 to maintain a network of qualified seasonal personnel who can support response operations when needed, while allowing team members to participate in future deployments if they are unavailable for a particular event.

Who Is a Good Fit for the Cat5 Seasonal Disaster Response Team?
This type of work is best suited for people who are comfortable working around equipment, responding to changing conditions, and operating in the field.
The current Cat5 Resources Seasonal Disaster Response Team opportunity requires applicants to have basic electrical and/or mechanical knowledge, a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, current vehicle insurance, and access to a smart device such as a smartphone, laptop, or tablet.
For personnel who wish to fuel or deploy generators, Cat5 also requires access to a reliable half-ton or larger four-wheel-drive diesel truck.
Because of company vehicle insurance requirements, personnel driving a vehicle on company time must be at least 25 years old.
